What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction seeks to help directees pay attention to and respond to God’s personal communication to them, to grow in intimacy in their relationship with God, and to live out their response to this relationship in everyday life. A spiritual director works to help the directee notice and respond to the movement and invitation of God in all of life. The spiritual director may encourage the directee to expand their prayer life; to increase their ability to notice, listen to, and respond to the various ways God communicates and reveals his love and guidance; to grow in discernment and decision-making; and to increase their willingness to bring their wounds or life patterns to God for healing.
Spiritual Direction is not intended to replace the directee’s worship community but can offer additional help and encouragement as they continue on their spiritual journey. Spiritual Direction is not a form of counseling or therapy and does not replace the role of a therapist or a mental health professional.
